Caroline won the ASBA Pot ‘O Gold Ewe Lamb Futurity.

You can learn more about this program at: http://www.southdownsheep.org/juniors_futurity.php

The American Southdown Breeders Association “Pot ‘O Gold” futurity pays cash awards to youth showing ewes that were purchased as lambs at ASBA sanctioned sales and nominated by the breeders for this futurity. The breeder nomination fee is jackpotted, and funds the pro-rated cash awards to youth for the top placings in each age category. The 1st place winner of each division also receive the right to hold a traveling trophy for one year.

There are three award categories;

The American Southdown Breeders Association established the “Pot ‘O Gold” Youth Futurity Program, to:

Provide an incentive based award system for youth to encourage and reward high quality purchases at ASBA sanctioned sales;

Encourage breeders to consign high quality ewes to the same sales.

The cash awards, ribbons and a traveling trophy for the ewe lamb and Yearling Ewe categories are awarded during the Junior Show at the North American Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY during November.

This blog is new. It is a way for us to get together to talk about Southdowns even if we can’t be together in person! What’s going on in your flock this fall? Are you lambing or getting ready to? Is it warm or cold where you live? How many Southdowns do you have?

Tell us about your flock and why you like Southdowns!
