Wisconsin Southdown Stars Sale and Symposium; Starter Ewe Program: To be held April 30 at www.wlivestock.com. Stay tuned for more details at www.wisconsinsouthdowns.com. Also note, the 2018 “Starter Ewe Lambs” will be awarded to several Wisconsin youth at the event. Starter ewe lamb applications are due on March 15th and can be found at the website listed above. The Starter Ewe Lamb program is in its 9th year and has been an extremely successful way for youth who currently don’t have Southdowns to get a start in the breed. The youth are provided with a high quality ewe lamb including mentorship from the donating breeder.
2018 Regional Southdown Sale: Note new location this year. Willoughby Livstock will host the event at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville, Indiana. Entry due April 1st. All American Junior Show Fundraiser Ram Semen Sale: The cost of AAJS is enormous, so Willoughby Livestock Online Sales has offered a commission free online sale to help with fundraising set for May 21 on www.wlivestock.com. The sale will be a ram semen sale from breeds showing at the AAJS. All proceeds go directly to the AAJS. 2018 National Southdown Sale: Plan to attend the 2018 National Southdown Sale at the Midwest Stud Ram Sale in Sedalia, Missouri! A show of the consignments for sale order will be at 8am CST on Wednesday, June 27th in the Swine Barn – North Ring with Tucker Beckmier judging. After show refreshments for Southdown breeders and friends will be available at the Southdown pens. This is the perfect time to mingle with breeders, friends, and find your favorite Southdowns for purchase. The sale is on Friday, June 29th beginning at 8am with Suffolks, followed by Tunis, and then Southdowns. Yearling rams and ewes, Fall rams and ewes, as well as January and February born ewe and ram lambs are eligible. Entries due April 20th for catalogued entires. 2018 Midwest Junior Preview Show: The 7th annual MJPS is an annual breeding sheep show opened to all registered breeds of sheep as well as commercial breeding sheep! It’s held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri on June 2, 2018. Families are invited to join in the fun Thursday – Sunday. However, sheep and exhibitors do not have to be in place any longer than Saturday during their shows. You and your family are free to come and go as necessary! 2018 National Southdown Junior Show & All American Junior Show: The National Junior Southdown Show will be held in conjunction with the All American Junior Show over July 5-8 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. It has been 25 years since the beginning of this great junior summer event. So, to celebrate the early beginning of this show, the AAJS will again be back in Indiana, where it all began.
