1. Do I have to be a member to register?

Yes, dues for an adult membership are required annually at a rate of $20. Junior membership is $10 for a youth 21 or younger. Both levels of membership can register sheep.

2. How to register?

Animals for registration must be submitted on an ASBA registration application available here. Applications must be filled out properly in order for an animal to be registered.

3. How do I properly fill out an application?

A correct application form includes the following: animal gender; DOB; sire and dam information. The offspring will be registered in the name of the owner of the dam at the time of offspring birth.

4. What constitutes ownership?

The breeder is the owner of the animal at time of breeding. Owner is the owner at time of lambing. If you do not own the sire then you most include a certificate of service filled out by the owner of the ram.

5. How do I transfer an animal?

Animals may be transferred by filling out appropriate information on registration  application or by submitting an original paper with transfer completed on reverse side. Transfer may be paid by either seller or buyer.

6. How do I pay for submitted work?

Payment must received in full before work is completed. Payment options include a check, money order, or PayPal.

7. How long does registration take to complete?

The timeline is dependent upon mail delivery speed, as well as the amount of work in the office at that time. A reasonable estimation time during peak season (March-August) is five business days for mail delivery, five days for work completion, and five business days for return delivery. That is a total of 15 days. It is important to note this time may be extended if the seller has to send the registration papers to you after registration.

8. What do I do if I lost my registration paper?

A request for a duplicate registration paper must be submitted to the ASBA, and there is a $10 fee due prior to receiving new paper.

9. What is christening and animal and how do I do it?

Christened animals have a name assigned to them that will never be duplicated. You will have sole ownership of that name, and the name will  be used in ASBA publications. The fee is $50 due at the time of request. For a list of Christened sheep, click here.
